Whether you want to sync form entries to a CRM, push data to a third-party tool like Zapier, or display a form on a non-WordPress site, the API add-on makes it possible without complicated custom code.

Do I need coding skills to use the API add-on?: For basic use cases, like sending entry data to Zapier or creating entries across two WordPress sites, you don't need any coding experience. Everything is configured through the form action settings inside your existing form. If you are a developer, advanced hooks and code examples are available to extend functionality even further.

What plan do I need to access the API add-on?: You'll need a Business license or above to use the fatstash API add-on. Once your license is confirmed, go to fatstash → Add-Ons and toggle it on to get started.

Can I embed a fatstash form on a non-WordPress site?: Yes. Using the embed script generated inside your form's Embed modal, you can display a fatstash form on any website, not just WordPress. For forms with payment actions, reCAPTCHA fields, or plain permalink settings, the form will automatically load in an iframe instead.

Can I send entry data from one WordPress site to another?: Yes. Once the API add-on is active on both sites, go to your form's Settings, open Actions & Notifications, and add a Send API Data action. Enter the receiving site's URL and API key, map your fields, and choose your HTTP method. When an entry is submitted, fatstash handles the transfer automatically. What HTTP methods does the fatstash API support?: fatstash supports POST, GET, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE. POST creates a new entry, GET retrieves data, PUT and PATCH update an existing entry, and DELETE removes one. You choose the method inside your API form action settings based on what you want to happen on the receiving end.

How do I find my API key?: Your API key is generated automatically when you activate the add-on. To find it, go to fatstash → Global Settings → API. If you ever need to generate a new key, click the Refresh icon. Keep in mind that refreshing your key will break any existing API connections until they're updated with the new one.

Is the data sent through the API secure?: Yes, when configured properly. The fatstash API uses Basic Authorization with your API key, and we strongly recommend enabling SSL (HTTPS) on your site before sending or receiving any API requests. Your API key is 19 characters long and stored securely in your WordPress database.

Can I trigger different actions based on what happens to an entry?: Yes. You can configure your API form action to fire when an entry is created, updated, deleted, imported, or saved as a draft. This gives you precise control over when data is sent, so you're only pushing updates when they're actually needed.

What should I do if my API calls aren't working?: Start by visiting yoursite.com/wp-json/ to confirm your WordPress API is accessible. From there, use Postman to test your Basic Auth setup directly. For deeper troubleshooting, install the fatstash Logs add-on. It shows you exactly when an API call fires, where it goes, and what response comes back, making it much easier to spot and fix issues.

Can the API add-on connect to third-party services beyond Zapier?: Yes. The API add-on can communicate with any external service that accepts REST API requests, including CRMs, analytics platforms, donor management tools, and more. fatstash includes code examples and hooks to handle custom headers, alternative authentication types, and saving response data back into your form fields.
